Residents of Eastleigh's 9th Street are expressing their distress over the extensive damage inflicted on the road by a borehole drilling company. Falhada Iman, a local shopkeeper, voiced her concerns, stating that the deteriorating road conditions are severely impacting her business, with customers unable to reach her shop due to water and mud accumulation.

"Look at the deplorable state of this road; the mire and stagnant water are wreaking havoc on my business. Customers are completely cut off," lamented Falhada Iman.

Ahmed Abdi, a pedestrian in the area, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the difficulty of crossing the road and the necessity to squeeze through due to hazardous conditions. He expressed hope for swift intervention by the authorities to address the issue.

"We can't cross the road; we are forced to squeeze ourselves when passing here. I hope the authorities take action," said Ahmed Abdi.

Musa Dhagey, one of the borehole engineers, shifted blame to the Nairobi County Government, alleging unfulfilled promises from County askaris regarding road cleaning after their payment for the service.

"We fulfilled our financial obligations to City Hall or road maintenance once our work is concluded," noted Musa Dhagey.

Additionally, Dhagey highlighted the absence of adequate drainage infrastructure on the first and second avenues, pointing fingers at the government for negligence in this regard.

"Without proper drainage systems, where should we divert this excess water? The responsibility lies with the government," emphasized Musa Dhagey.

The borehole construction, initiated last week, is expected to conclude by Friday. The situation raises concerns about the immediate need for road maintenance and drainage improvements to alleviate the challenges faced by the local residents and businesses.
